WHAT IS NATURAL SEA GLASS?
Natural sea glass is glass that has been discarded into the oceans by sea freight, ocean liners and other sea faring vessels. Over time the glass is broken down by the movement of the water, washed up along sea coast shorelines and reclaimed. This ocean refuse has been polished into irregular and beautiful shapes with gem-like attributes. Natural sea glass is a limited resource and has become a rare commodity as the demand for this glass has increased over the years.
WHAT IS CULTURED SEA GLASS?
Cultured sea glass is made from glass destined for industrial waste disposal but has been recovered and up-cycled. Shaped into any form, size or color and treated to have sea worn qualities, cultured sea glass is a versatile material and limitless resource. The mining and transporting of raw materials for new glass products creates at least 385 pounds of waste for every ton of glass made and takes centuries to break down.
WHY USE COCONUT SHELLS?
Coconut beads are produced from the husk of the coconut and, once harvested, no longer contribute to agricultural waste. Many countries use controlled burns to handle this type of waste adding to CO2 and methane emissions. Re-purposing the coconut husk leads to less direct impact on the environment and, as a result, coconut products are CO2 neutral. Coconut is also an alternative to wood, aiding in the prevention of global deforestation. This renewable and sustainable resource provides reliable commerce for many developing countries.
WHY USE SEASHELLS?
Each year over 7 million tons of seashells are added to landfills by the seafood industry. The impact of this practice are often exorbitant waste disposal costs that can lead to environmental consequences such as unlawful dumping. Seashells have been utilized by artisans around the world for 1000s of years; salvaged from shorelines and waste disposal to be repurposed, often into beautiful works of art and jewelry. A naturally renewable and sustainable resource, seashells provide a dependable source of industry in many developing countries.
WHY USE RECYCLED ALLOY?
Metals fill up landfill sites across the globe and choosing to use recycled metals limits the need for all types of mining and refining of raw materials, cuts down greenhouse emissions, encourages resource preservation and reduces the carbon footprint of the product. These metals are recyclable, closing the reduce, reuse, recycle loop.
